The seven-piece K-Pop band, BTS, earned their first career No. 1 on the Billboard's main singles chart with their upbeat disco-pop track Dynamite and stayed there for months. They also received its first Grammy nomination in the Best Pop Duo/Group Performance category with Dynamite. Upon its release, the music video for the hit song earned 101 million views in just 24 hours, setting a record as the most-watched music video in 24 hours. They are also known for their quirky fashion and music. But do you know there are certain BTS band members who wear nail polish for performances?
Yes, you read that right. Some of the BTS members do wear nail polish including rapper J-Hope. And the reason is beautiful and quite progressive. The septet doesn't follow the traditional gender norms which makes the K-Pop band a perfect blend of masculinity and femininity. J-Hope had sported nails with EGO spelled on it. Fans had also celebrated it to support the band members.
"I feel like it's the really beautiful mixture of masculinity and femininity that they're so unabashedly known for," Melanie Fontana, who co-wrote BTS' Boy With Luv, said during an interview with Refinery29.
"They're not afraid to use what some people would call more feminine-sounding melodies because they make it their own. I think that that's what's so sexy about them. They go for almost ethereal melodies that you wouldn't necessarily write for a male boy band," she added.
BTS' most-watched music video is DNA with 1.1 billion views, followed by Boy With Luv (Feat. Halsey) and Fake Love. The band owns 28 music videos that have been watched at least 100 million times, according to Big Hit. Seven-member superband BTS was the most streamed Korean artiste and global group last year.
